That's an interesting journey - from Classics to Traditional Medicine. I can see the common themes between the two. (I was resolved, at one point of my childhood, to be a scholar in medieval history).

Different to you, I followed a biomedical scientific pathway before arriving at the TCM station.

I agree with learning through travel...the 'Grand Tour' of TCM. There's something frustrating yet amazing when you immerse yourself in clinical practices of different styles and/or cultures, and realise, despite the differences, they all seem to produce results.

Thank you for a wonderful article Mr Johnson. I'm planning to visit Mongolia to volunteer for care/orphanage. Didn't realise I had such a rich traditional medicine culture to explore too.

Aside: It sounds like you adopt a Japanese pulse taking method but a Chinese medical approach? Me too. Although, once I do the Toyohari diploma, I imagine my style will change/evolve again.

Ultimately, I suppose for me what makes or breaks being invested in a Church community relies on 1) Sermons; 2) Songs (bad folk songs vs theologically rich chant); 3) Socially open congregation; and 4) Sacramental experience (especially the pastoral sensitivity of penance, the beauty and healing power of the mystery of Holy Oil, and inclusion or exclusion from Eucharist).

Mr. Johnson,

I've been trying to hunt down a means to contact Shaman Sukhbat or anyone in affiliation with the Golomt centre. How did you connect with them? Any help would be tremendous. Thanks!
